Slayden has been concentrating its recruitment efforts at university career fairs renowned for their construction programs. During the fall and winter career fairs, Slayden worked hard to recruit and place nine interns for the summer of 2024. The students come from George Fox University, Boise State, Oregon State University (OSU), Oregon Institute of Technology, and Boston University. Slayden is excited to welcome Nina Le Brun, Lauren Wilder, Jaden Notehelfer, Owen Haugh, Jayce Clevenger, Nate Smith, Kellen Westbrooks, Hannah Song, and Evan Dela Cruz to its internship program.

Ashleigh Beck, a Construction Engineering Management student at OSU, started at Slayden in the summer of 2022 as a project intern. She transitioned to part-time while continuing her education and will graduate in June 2024. Ashleigh has accepted a full-time Project Engineer position with Slayden.
Tanner Windom, a Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering student, plans to graduate from OSU in December. He began his internship in 2023, working on virtual design and construction (VDC) at Slayden, and has a full-time offer waiting for him upon graduation.
Another area of focus has been exposing local high school students to the trade industry. In March, Slayden’s team exhibited at the Northwest Youth Expo, attended by over 6,000 students from more than 75 high schools in Oregon and Southwest Washington. Additionally, Slayden has been conducting classroom visits and inviting students to project sites, giving them a better understanding of water and wastewater construction projects and potential long-term careers.
Complementing these efforts, Slayden continues its partnership with the Northwest College of Construction. This partnership provides students with pathways to complete apprenticeship programs and join the Slayden family, aiming to bring a new generation into the field.
Later this spring, Slayden invited high school students from the Salem/Keizer CTEC Construction program to tour the Rock Creek Primary
Clarifier project, an active construction site that demonstrates careers in the trades.
Slayden is actively supporting its growing need for project engineers and craft workers by expanding its internship program and high school outreach to promote the trades.

Slayden Constructors and Jacobs Engineering recently completed a $78 million expansion of the Robert A. Duff Water Treatment Plant for the Medford Water Commission. The project boosts capacity from 45 to 65 million gallons per day and adds advanced filtration, a new reservoir, a modern pump station, and seismic‑resilient redundancies. This upgrade strengthens long‑term water reliability for Medford and the greater Rogue Valley, supporting regional growth and public health.
